Let’s dive into Florida’s amazing springs and learn more about Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV)!

What is SAV?
Florida springs are globally recognized for their unique ecological and aesthetic value. At the base of the food
web, submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) plays a vital role in maintaining biodiversity by providing habitat
structure, refuge, and forage for many species. SAV supports primary consumers such as insects, turtles, fish, and the
federally threatened Florida Manatee. The plants you see growing at the bottom of or beautiful springs are not only a food source but serve as essential structural habitat for countless species!
